Welcome to the world Bennett Kevin Roark! It's been three weeks since I gave birth to our precious son! It has forever changed who I am as a person.
He came into the world via C-Section on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 8:17 a.m. It wasn't the way I had planned things to go, but that is irrelevant. God knew what He was doing and He didn't need my help. I finally held my baby for the first time at about 1 p.m. and tears flowed like a river at the sight of our little miracle! He was so tiny weighing in at 6 lbs 3.5 oz and 20 inches long and CUTE!
My friend Jenna Vincent was with me the entire time. She is/was our photographer! She never once complained about the long day, hours, or anything. She is an amazing person! When I finally could talk and keep awake long enough she exclaimed, "I feel jipped I didn't get to see you in labor." I honestly didn't want anybody to see me like that, and God was faithful that way. Labor is NO JOKE! Jenna was the hands and feet of Jesus to us on that day. She went out and got my sweet husband lunch. She's a sweetheart!!!! We love her with every fiber of our being.
So what is it like being a mom? Let's see, AWESOME! There's no other word to describe it. Is it tough being sleep deprived?!! A resounding YES, but we're managing! Bennett is exclusively breast fed (with the exception of the first few hours of life because they were trying to get me to come around after surgery and my upper body was too weak to hold him). So, every 2-3ish hours he nurses, then he either goes right back to sleep or cries to be held, snuggeled, and made to feel safe! Most times it's right back to sleep.
Sean is AMAZING as a new dad. He is just as sleep deprived as I am and sometimes more. It just depends. We have an agreement that since I"m Bennett's venue of nourishment, that during the night he gets up to change diapers and brings him into me. It's not always that way, my motherly instincts send me flying out of bed some nights. It just depends on how much sleep we've had! IF Sean is working a crazy shift, I let him sleep the entire night (as much as possible) and I tend to everything. The next day though in between feedings I'm sleeping. That is the best advice ever, sleep when the baby sleeps. You never know if the baby is going to have a good night or bad one so, get what sleep you can!!!!'
Motherhood is amazing and is the best thing that has happened to me after accepting Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior! Sean and I give God all the glory for our little boy! I'll try and keep up with this blog when I can. Motherhood is a full time responsibility!!!!
Blessings,
Alicia Roark
